"Five and twenty ponies trotting through the dark,
Brandy for the parson and bacchy for the clerk,
Laces for the ladies and letters for the spie,
Now watch the wall my darling while the gentlemen go by."
The song, performed by a single minstrel in a small corner of a square in the town, was beautiful. The minstrel was male, but his voice was not deep as Delta would have expected: it was light, soft and bright. Though standing in a dark corner in the snowfall, the minstrel had gained quite the audience. His song, even during this overcast, cold and miserable day, seemed to be a haven of happiness, and Delta felt her very core being warmed with the upbeat song. The voice, despite being light, also had a slight husky element to it. Some... sultry quality. Maybe the warmth was something a little more.Brandy for the parson and bacchy for the clerk,
Laces for the ladies and letters for the spie,
Now watch the wall my darling while the gentlemen go by."
"If you wake at midnight to the sound of horses' feet,
Don't go drawin' back the blinds nor lookin' in the street.
Them that asks no questions, isn't told a lie.
Now watch the wall my darling while the gentlemen go by."
Delta's foot began to beat in time with the music, and a smile graced her lips. Even the slight headache, which had begun to form when the withdrawal from psinia finally reared its ugly head, seemed to be kept at bay by the song. A few members of the audience were clapping in time with each strum of the minstrel's fingers, and a few others were actually singing along. Delta wondered where the song originated - she had certainly never heard it before.Don't go drawin' back the blinds nor lookin' in the street.
Them that asks no questions, isn't told a lie.
Now watch the wall my darling while the gentlemen go by."
The songs and tales that Delta has been raised on were nigh on entirely songs relating to voyages on the seas, or ships, or sailors or... drunkenness. A lot of them were about alcohol, truth be told. The beat to the song was much like the ones in the past. Even, to an extent, were the lyrics similar. But it seemed a bit more tame, more jovial. If this was what Scalvoris was all about, then she could definitely get used to it.

So I take no credit for the lyrics. They are the beginning of a longer song and can be found here
