Re: The Pirate Finale!

15th

"If you'll excuse me, Alberach. I didn't manage to finish the research we discussed. I'll keep in touch with the echo scrolls."

Some time had passed, mere hours, since the events had unfurled. Time rewritten. In the time he'd spent contemplating his next move, and taking a moment to breathe, Woe had arrived and suggested a research team be sent to help Varlum. Varlum explained he wasn't allowed to bring others into the room, but that he would ensure they stay in touch where possible. Truth be told, he was unsure how time would complicate things in that regard. But it was an issue for later.

It seemed a shame to the man that Woe was a face he knew, yet few to no words had ever been spoken. Perhaps it was the unfortunate circumstances, and something they might rectify some trial. But this wasn't one of them. Whatever resolve Varlum had, while strong, had limits. He'd seen the world explode, as had many others it became apparent. But he had also marched into it knowing that he was the one that had to stop it. One mistake and it could have all crumbled. One single error, one wrong word spoken. Once the island was saved he had expected the weight to life. But it didn't.

Kata had come closer to her goal of taking the power of many Immortals for herself, and Valtharn had stolen the power for herself. Varlum had killed one and been ready to fight the other. But they were a known enemy. Stood before him, weapons ready to fight if he insisted. But while these explosives had been laid by their enemies, the ignition came from within, regardless of intent. As all the people burned in his vision it hadn't been some attack, and it hadn't been soldiers fighting, it had been a man and a mistake - leading to the death of civilians. Varlum could stomach soldiers fighting and dying. It was never easy, but they knew what they marched into, Varlum included. But the children that had burned. The screams he heard. That was a reality that left him sick to his very core.

Dismissing himself, with an echo scroll to keep in contact, Varlum made his way into the woods.

As he walked to his home he looked around, the streets silent. Not out of some fear. But staring. Apparently it had been more than a select few that had seen the truth, but all of them, each one looking at the towering Ithecal with a varying look. Many looked at the man that saved them with an admiration, others with some pity. But each of them knew the truth. As he walked he saw heads bow, nods of approval and even some cheers and applause as he went. Utterings of the word 'thank you', salutes from groups of Elements that patrolled the city. Acknowledgement of what he'd done for Scalvoris. Perhaps if it were time for celebration their joy would be more vocal, but while they all knew they were alive, they also knew the fight wasn't quite over.

Eventually, he arrived back to the door hidden in the forest, using Defiance to part the wall of stone he made to block it in, before sealing it shut behind himself. He opened it and closed it behind him, taking a seat in the library with his head in his hands. There was finally some quiet. Time around him crawled to a slow, ensuring he had as much time as he needed, taking a deep inhale. How could he sit in here knowing what he knew now? That any moment could go by and another simple mistake could kill everybody.

"I believe most people celebrate when they saved an island" Ralaith spoke behind him, placing a hand on the Ithecal's shoulder. Truth be told, Ralaith understood the weight on Varlum, the crushing reality of what could have been. But he also knew that what Varlum had done was something to be celebrated. The Mortalborn rubbed his temple for a moment, before looking over his shoulder at the immortal. "Did I do the right thing? Changing time, sparing Nir'wei, all of it?"

There was a moment of quiet before Ralaith gave a reassuring look. "Do you think you'd be in this library if you'd done the wrong thing? Besides. Pier and Pre are the judge of right and wrong. If you are asking me, however, if I thought what you did was wise?" he raised an eyebrow. "Wise enough to save an island. Wise enough for people you don't know to admire you and see what you did. Brave enough to risk my scorn, and your own life, for the good of these people. So while I can not tell you what is right or wrong, what you did was wise. Which is why I understand your eagerness to be out of here."

With a snap of his fingers Varlum felt a shift in time, Ralaith waving his hand as a bundle of books drew from the shelves around and placed themselves on the table, opening to the pages that mattered. "The world outside is frozen. Not that they know it, of course. But if time is what you are afraid of, I can help you with that much. Read. Research. The puzzle pieces you are missing are there, as am I to help you. Then go. See your sister, stop more riots, do whatever you must. But your place now is not among books. So let's make it fast, shall we?"

And they did so. Varlum and Ralaith read the books for some time, exchanging comments. But what Ralaith had done was more than simply help Varlum on the way and grant him all the time he needed. He'd given him a chance to breathe, and a person to do so with. The two talked, and after some days (although none passed by in Idalos) they even laughed. Taking moments to share tales, exchange stories, even though Ralaith knew all of Varlum's. The tension broke and the Mortalborn returned to his regular self, blissfully unaware of just how intentional that had been.

When it came time to finish the research, when Varlum came to the same revelation he would have elsewise, he closed one of the tomes with a heavy sigh. "So what next, my friend?" Ralaith asked, giving a warm look. The Ithecal stood slowly, glancing to the door. "I tell everyone what I know, what they need to know. Then I get to work. People need to feel safe. If I can help, so be it. And if anyone from the Centipede remains, I'll see what I can do to weed them out."

Ralaith gave a small nod of approval, before gesturing for the door. "Very well. Off you go. Next time, though" he chuckled a little before he spoke. "Don't wait for the world to be on fire to come visit."

16th

With his newfound time, Varlum ensured that the researchers knew everything he does (same as his prior post, before the things exploded). Then he made an effort to visit Vega, the new militant and his sister, who has nothing but his praises to sing before the two get to business. Varlum offered his assistance as a temporary member of the Elements, acting as her right hand if needed and ensuring that she would always have someone she could count on.

Regardless of her answer, he asked what he could do to help. When she mentioned the pirates that were held prisoner he nodded calmly, explaining that he'd already interrogated some but to little avail after the attack he'd fought in, but that he'd be willing to find out anything he had to from the ones they had captured.

With her blessing, he made his way to interrogate them immediately. Varlum was an intimidating man when he needed to be. But now, with the knowledge he had, this became more than a job. It was personal. People would have been killed, unfathomable amounts, for their schemes. Rather than take them aside to a room each, ask them questions, Varlum made his way to the cells they were kept. With Elements standing guard outside they unlocked the cell and allowed him in, the Mortalborn stepping in and breaking the darkness with his molten scales.

He wanted them to see him interrogate their friends, all the pirates in other cells able to watch as he walked into a cell of three. Then, putting a mixture of his defiance, blessings and Intimidation to use he got to work. Varlum was far from the kind to torture someone. But they needed this information. He wouldn't be tying them to tables and cutting into them any time soon. But a hard grasp from a molten hand here or there would get answers.

If that was what it took, so be it.

17th and Onwards

Varlum would mostly spend this time sharing any information he net from his interrogations, patrolling the streets to ensure people were safe and reporting to Vega if anything came up.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

The situation was irritating, but that was fine. However, he moment that she saw what had happened, what had nearly happened, Vega felt anger rise in her.

"I swear to Charmadarst's crotch, this is not even a little bit funny," she grumbled. She wanted, at that point, to go and find Nir'wei and thump the top of his head until his feet sunk into the ground so deep he made a solid fence post. But, she couldn't do much right now, and she had to think for a moment, so she got on.

She wrote letters, lots of them. It was good that she had help to do that, because it would have taken her a lot longer. In between those letters, she spoke to Noodle, her Diri in Sweetsong. "Tell people this, Noodle, please. I know what's happened, I saw what you saw. I'm increasin' Element presence, but the sooner we can get this evacuation goin', the less likely folks will be to panic. Thanks. I trust you all, an' I'm so grateful to you."

She wrote the letters and then, she went and spoke to the troops in the most direct and clear way she knew.same thread as above, just in the last post. The guiding light from Xiur had been clear. People needed to get out of here.

Vega told everyone. She told Kura, Woe, Darius - everyone that she knew and trusted. She also told Bao and Varlum, but for slightly different reasons. To Bao, she was clear. "It's not safe, an' you need to encourage people to evacuate. We also need to give them assurance that their property an' things will be safe. Is there anythin' you can do with yer Ziel stuff?"

To Varlum, her brother, she was clear. "I need to make sure that peope don't panic, Varlum. I'm goin' to be travellin' across Scalv, makin' sure people are safe. I need you an' Jacien to be visible and clear an' in charge. The voices of calm and reason. But I need you to make sure that no one. NO ONE. Goes near that explosive stuff unless I've given the ok. I need every place protected an' people very clear that they can't go there or you will get testy. Will you do that for me?"

Then, she communicated specifically with Winstan (and Kisaik, if she was told he was awake) and she told them everything. "We need to get the people of Scalv out, an' setting up in Rharne is the best thing. Please, can you help every way you can? The people look to you two, an' if you're there, they'll feel better." As an afterthought, she asked, "An' could you do some anti-theivin' stuff that we can put in people's homes? Like, I dunno, a dust what explodes all over any would-be thief an' that we as Elements - or you - can track? I want deterrent from lootin' an' stuff, because people are stupid an' greedy."

In the time between the letter writing and the actual going to speak to the troops, Vega did her best to squeeze every last drop out of the resources she had . She wanted Elements to be seen and visible, everywhere. She knew that would be key and so she drafted her plan, and made sure that she
ability to make the most of the environment
and her
skill with working across large distances.
Finally, she made sure that she had
scavenged every last thing
to make this work. Breathing in slightly, she closed her eyes. "I'm not ignorin' you, Ol'Tuck. I'm righ' grateful. I choose Life. Thank you."

Armed with the best she could do, Vega turned her full attention to making sure that they did one thing. "So, here are your assignments. Pass them out an' look at them. If you are faced with a situation - or if your troops are faced with a situation, then I want you to breathe in an' ask yerself. What would Vega do?. I know that sounds righ' big-headed, but the bottom line here is that we are all needin' to act consistently. You know what I'd do - you do. I'd focus on calmin' folks down, gettin' those who need to evacuate out of here an' makin' sure that the place is safe. If in doubt, ask me. I'm goin' to take to the skies an' visit the outskirt villages an' stuff."

And then, when she was sure that they knew what they were doing and she was sure that she had told everyone everything, she nodded her head. " Lets be careful out there."

15th. - 20th
She has arranged (all in the thread I've linked in the post) that the people of Sweetwine and some from Hopetoun are going to use the portals to go to Rharne, outside the Willow Tree Hospital and there they'll set up a temporary camp for people to evacuate to. We will then get people evacuating. That's all been agreed - the sweetsong folks and the hopetoun folks have got great skills to do this and the benefit of Vega's cappies. So, it'll be a small Beacon-like place that's as comfortable and safe as can be.

She'll travel Scalvoris on her Dragonling and get reports from everywhere she can. Scaltoth, Ishallr, the lot. All the places that - as she puts it - "you haven't looked. You don't know. We need to know." . She'll come back and help Winston as much as she can during this time.
During that time she will be in constant contact - and her aim is that there will be a very visible presence of Elements. She also (cos of an Endurance capstone) won't sleep. Just
Power Nap.
She will be doing the "spirit map" twice a day. Morning and night.

15th - night. Threats. - This is threats TO Scalv. It may be the big fleet of ships about to attack or the volcano about to erupt. It is about threats to life. It gives a general sense and the place, but no more than that.

16th Morning - Offensive capability -
16th - Night - Defensive capability and weakness. -

17th Morning: Disease. - They see both where cases of disease are (so they’ll know that there’s 5 diseased people in Almund, for example, they can’t say who they are) and how bad the disease is.
17th Night: Hunger.- They see both where cases of hunger are (so they’ll know that there’s 5 hungry people in Almund, for example, they can’t say who they are) and how bad the hunger is.

18th Flora. - morning - This is showing them where there’s flora that is usual / unusual to the place AND where there is flora that is healthy / unhealthy.
18th - night - Fauna.- This is showing them where there’s fauna that is usual / unusual to the place AND where there is fauna that is healthy / unhealthy.

19th - morning - Life Forged Can also sense the health of groups of people / places on the map - through a lens of “most healthy” to “least healthy” .
19th evening - threats again. etc.

It will cycle

18th: On receiving Woe's information she asks any / everyone in the group if they have any drainglass. She'll also ask the people of Sweetsong and Isonomia and the Elements and Bao and everyone she's ever met. This is important. If she gets any, she's going to ask Winston to test it with the small sample of the liquid chaos stuff, to see if it will work to contain it. IF it does, she's going to ask if anyone has checked what the vials of the liquid chaos are made from. ... whether they might be drainglass.
! Message from: Pig Boy, Tech Guy, and Munchkin
~ Sweetsong and Hopetoun are mobilized and made to evacuate, using the portals to the WIllow Tree Hospitals of the Order of the Adunih to travel to Rharne, where they will set up camps in anticipation for refugees.

This gets done within a couple days, due to her many capstones, abilities, and general skill at logistics as well. With the benefit of her own skill capstones, they accoplish all of this and almost overperform.

~ The refugees or whoever wants to evacuate the island, are led to the portals by Element escorts. Here, they are able to use Vega's guidance to calm their charges. In the next three days, it's fairly assumed that most concentrated population centers containing people who want to evacuate, do so within the time frame leading up to the 20th.

There may be stubborn indviduals who want to go down with the ship so to speak (Havardr?) And of course the ELements are prioritizing people that are part of vulnerable populations. So not everyone does take the opportunity to line up and leave. But a good portion of the Island's people who would be most inclined to leave, do so. To the tune of almost 30% of the entire population (Almund, Sclavoristown, And Egilrun have it easiest when it comes to the evacuation as they have Order Outposts with portals. (Players are free to assume any of their npcs they want to have leave, can do so). Gunvorton and Darbyton are not as successful, but they are efficiently moving people.

However, as the plan gets traction, Vega is swiftly informed approaching the 18th that the magic of the portals appears to be weakening, and they fear that they may not be able to sustain the transit of everyone from the island.

~ As for her investigations into specific places, that will have to be roleplayed. Her ability to gather information from people is limited to a case by case basis, without the benefit of intelligence networks: Intelligence is Novice.

However her investigation is expert, and she is able to glean some important information regarding Ishallr and Scaltoth.

Ishallr: The big heads at the University reports trouble with the Ecclipse Portals. They aren't weakening, to the contrary, they appear to be overloaded, and appear to be ready to burst with potential.

Scaltoth: The tribesmen that Vega meets with on her excursion into Scaltoth inform her that the Ruins of Fei have formed a barrier of pure dread. None of the tribals will approach it, and anyone who can feel fear, is driven from its vicinity. The barrier appears to play upon the emotions, to a point. Those who were stout enough of heart (gm or higher discipline or equivalent) have reported feeling such dread that it threatened their health, and they had to turn back.

Re: Spirit Map:

Havardr:
Weakness: Havardr's defenses were smashed. People re tired. Some may be getting sick, ,but as it's a small population it's minor as long as they can quarantine the sick.
Strength: People are still inspired to struggle and willing to go down with the ship, so to speak.

Gunvorton:
Weakness: People are at a loss without Shania's leadership. There are rumors that she faked her death, and just general confusion. There's some sickness as Gunvorton doesn't have an Order presence.
Strength: It still is the most viable port on the south side of the island with the repairs done recently.

Darbyton:
Weakness: People look to the rangers for help, but with the absence of Oram and the wrapping up of the rangers into the Elements aren't sure who to turn to. There's some sickness in iDarbyton, as it's one of the pop centers without an Order Outpost.
Strength: People are reluctant to leave, given the distance neeeded to travel. They are more determined than most to go down with the ship so to speak. And they might be given cause to add to the helpers around the island.

Egilrun:
Weakness: People are worried about tthe commercial prospects of Egilrun, given the uncertainty of the future. Many line up to take the offer of safety in Rharne, outside the Order. They need good planners to help with optimizing the movement of people, even as the portals weeken.
Strength: Egilrun is in fairly good shape, in spite of recent events. Woe's resources have been invested into Egilrun to such a degree that they have the capability to rebuild any damage or injuries.

Beacon:
Weakness: Beacon is ill-defended as it's a farming and crafting community and not a great contributor to the military power of Sclavoris. But it hasn't been struck by any serious misfortune yet. Many have migrated to Scalvroristown to take the offer of refuge in Rharne, leaving much of it unwatched and unlooked after.
Strength: Still, there are people designated to stay behind, who wish to do so. And they will be able to cover certain area of Beacon to make sure no mischeif occurs under their watch. They just will require some direction in that, for which they look to Vega and the Council.

Scalvoristown:
Weakness: Many people are getting sick, as it's that time of arc. There's the arrival of the Etzori delegation which has been blamed for bringing 'foreign diseases' with them.
Strength: Scalvoris is a great center for intelligence and research, a great place to obtain information on specific things such as the issues with Ishallr, and other phenomenon. The University remains an asset and a link to Viden if need be.

Almund:
Weakness: Horrible dissent and unrest. Diseases going untreated and getting worse in spite of the Order presence. Crime is at a all-time high.
Strength: The Almundians seem more reluctant than the other three major population centers, to take the offer of refuge in Rharne. There's pride in being Scalvorish, and for many a willingness to 'go down with the ship'

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch

The Pirates Finale ......

Welcome to the Scalvoris seasonal event for Rebirth 724!

It's going to be done in a way that's heavily influenced by Pigs' awesome Fire event in Rharne - first things first, massive thanks to him!

Next, apologies for the delay. RL, you know?

Then, without further ado, lets get going!

Woe.

  • Day15
    • Sends out lots of information, gets people around a central figure. This is good.
    • Everything that he aims to do in that day gets done Please note that I can't direct my pcs actions, but please assume Vega did that and yes, it all worked ok
  • Days 16 + 17
    • The aid fund Please deduct 200 WP. Then, please assume that you get another 200 WP in donations was not only a great success, but it was a focus, too. It allowed people to focus their actions. Psychologically, it helped quell unrest.
    • The information he spreads, the idea that there is a big plan is helped by lots of change and visibility of that- it works. Positive outcomes all around.
    • His letter to Perdita is not received, he would see this (somehow). There is no clear explanation whyBasically, I can't do 2 pcs in the event -I'm pushing myself with one.
    • The gift he wants made can be done, but it will take 3 days.
The expedition to Slag's Deep: Woe and Balth have gotten themselves there, the thread is not finished. Therefore, I'm going to give you info re: what you find on the 19th (what happens before, is upta you). I will modnote the thread itself, please get yourselves to that point and nudge me. Thanks!

Rorom.

  • Rorom finds that there are 3 ships, fully crewed, who are sailing with him. You can assume that they are competent and expert in their skills, but skills are mundane and what you would expect from sailors.
  • Your expedition into the caves finds you discovering three important things:
    1. The caves are very much moving again - it takes awhile (Navigation: Competent) but Rorom will realise after maybe a day that they are actively stopping him from going to one area / it's like they're deliberately keeping him away.
    2. Once he's in, finding a way out is much (much much) more difficult.
    3. It's cold (obvs) and icy. But after a while, one of the NPCs (with Detection at Competent or higher) notices something. In the ice, there's also glass. Not lots, but some. Here and there. Just .... shards of glass.
Do this in a solo or in this thread. If you do it in a solo, let me know and I'll modnote between posts - if youdo it here, chat to me, and I'll provide info as you go. You can do a "I'm doing this" and I'll tell you what happens - but if you say it, it has to happen :D

Winstan.

  • Preparations are underway - you can assume that hte revised guest list all RSVP in the resoundingly positive.
  • The information is all very very interesting. Between you and Varlum, you've got a lot of detail. Winston is likely (Research = Novice) to get quite overwhelmed. But, what he learns is that he needs samples in order to know for sure what's happening. However, due to his lots of connections, being in charge of Isonomia etc - he is able to get some drainglass. If he tests this, nudge me and I'll tell you what he finds.

Balth

  • You've got most of your stuff covered there. However, when you try and revive Rand, Balth discovered that (thanks to his Vri mark) that he can sense no life here. It's like the coma is false - it's keeping him alive, but he's dead. This is not making Vri happy. Balth's Detection skills are stretched to the limit to see / sense this - but he does.
  • See my comment to Woe re: Slag's Deep. Once you get there, I'll have a quick chat with you both, and we'll go from there.

Darius

  • The trap is sprung and - gasp - they fight! They don't just fight, they fight like their very souls depended on it. These are people you know, that you've lived with. In the early stages of the fight, Darius notices (Detection = Expert) something. Something familiar. Some familiar white stone-like substance, rather like he, Oram and Vega came across previously. ....
  • Let me know what he'll do here, and I'll give you the outcome and what he finds :D But be in no doubt there is a risk of the Manor collapsing here.

Kura.

  • Viden's response to her question re: Drain Glass is to send her samples of alchemically treated glass which they say is Drain Glass. They also assure her that they will thoroughly investigate and anyone found to be dealing on the black market will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
  • There are people who go with Rorom, whether you ok them or not. Three ships travel with him, in fact.
  • The investigation in the Warehouse brings about the following information:
    • There are crates and crates of what seem to be entirely normal things. Normal normal normal.
    • However, Vega reports that they gave her the "jeebies" and she and her folks looked into it.
    • All of the crates are thick wood - but in fact they have sheets of glass inside the walls of the crate. The glass will need to be investigated but a) it isn't what Viden sent and b) it does exactly the "feeling of the jeebies" that has been reported already. It is worth noting that all the crates with glass come from - you guessed it - Viden.

Nir'wei.

  • You get a small pile of trinkets - some of them are strange glass shards - from the fish.
  • Qylios absolutely grants him his request - she can do that. But, she's clear. If he does that, he will be away from here for at least 4 days. Let me know what you decide - and there are things that he will most certainly learn either way. We can RP the meeting if you want - let me know!

Kisaik.

  • Kisaik finds unrest, discomfort. The spirits and the spirit world are sensitive to what is happening and there is a lot of uncomfortable spirits right now.
  • Spirits are very reluctant to retun with him. They will, but it will be against their wishes and will.
  • When he returns from the Beneath he notices that he, too, is increasingly uncomfortable. Like the air is charged, or something. It's not major, but it's there.

Varlum

  • The pirates are afraid. They're afraid of Chrien. One of them blurts out that this is all just too much for a distraction ..... and then, Varlum learns that yes, basically - the Pirate Attacks, all of it - it was a distraction. The problem is that the pirates don't know what from. Varlum knows much more than them.
  • Should Varlum work with Jacien as Vega requests and patrol etc - he'll come across small pockets of "resistance" - that if he and Jacien dispatch, (and any others with them), will mean that resistence peters out. But the people who are dissenting are all speaking from the same thing. Chrien is coming, she'll destroy the island. Centipede is mentioned more than once.

All of you ......

Ok so that takes us to the 19th. You have now the 20th (ish) to do any last minute things. As of the 19th, you've got samples of Drain Glass from Viden and samples of the glass from the warehouse in Gunvorton.

On the 20th, a few things happen.

1. Shania is murdered. Her throat is cut and her body found the morning of the 20th
2. Rand dies. There's no explanation, he just stops breathing.
3. Anyone who is marked, Forged, a Warden, has Effigy, has a Diri, etc - as of the 20th, you will start to feel just slightly uncomfortable. Like you're in an area of high static or with a constant background noise. It gets worse on the 21st and the 22nd.

Then, on the 21st, the Tea Party happens. The Immortals will come, the Induks will come, etc. If you are attending the tea party please give it a section in your post and tell me all the questions you have and the points you wish to make. Any favours you want to ask for, points to raise, etc.

It should be noticed that the Induks are either too big or too stubborn or too .. Induk - but they don't seem uncomfortable in the way that Diris etc are. The Immortals are perplexed and concerned, but have limited answers. They are amenable to help but they will not be offering solutions or Deus Ex's. Basically, it's up to you as PCs. :)

Ishallr, Slag's Deep and the Tea Party have equal importance. Please make sure that you are all clear about what you rae doing in terms of communication.

Those with Detection of Expert or Higher will notice on the 21st that Echo Scrolls are starting to write stuff that looks a bit faded. Like ink is running out or something. Very minor, but there. The 22nd? It's worse.

Please go no further than the end of hte 21st in your post. The 22nd is an important day. I'm going to post again on the 18th April 2024 please make sure you post before the end of day on the 17th Thank you!

As always, if I've forgotten something. Nudge me.

In your post:
  • Give the narrative of what you're doing between 19th (any little catch up bits) - 21st Cylus
  • A list of actions at the end of your post is great. Thank you all.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Party TIME!

20th Cylus
Off Topic
Winston arranged for the Holo-coms he had made last time to be sent out, using members of Isonomia, to all major places around Scalvaris.

He also investigated the drainglass, which I did a solo for this here.

Finally, he experimented on the chaos liquid that Vega sent him here and found out a bunch of stuff, producing a prototype that nullifies the stuff completely.

I have included the summary of the take aways for this event in this post's summary.

21st Cylus
Off Topic
IMPORTANT NOTES ON WINSTON

When he turns up to the party, he looks like he's wrecked. His entire left-hand side is devoid of fur and his skin looks like it has been burnt. The fur on his right side is unkempt and dishevelled.

When approached about it, he waves a hand and uses his GM Socialisation to make it seem like nothing... It is not (for them able to tell).
It was the morning of the Tea Party and Winston had managed to squeeze in a nap before finalising the food. This nap was in fact enforced by having been exploded and nearly killing himself while creating the Chaosglass prototype, but if anyone asked, he waved a scored arm and made light of it being a bad hear trial. Waking up suddenly, he looked down at his healing potions, which were significantly more powerful then the healing beam and considered for little more than a microsecond that taking it would put him back to sleep before casting it aside and
zapping himself a few more times with the beam and getting on with the arrangements for the party
.

While making the final arrangements for the party, he noticed something very odd while leaving a note for Gena. Like a... well, like a ferret up a drain pipe, noticing that the echo scroll was fading he immediately shot over to see Saiore to make sure she was OK. He had no idea whether its condition was in any way a reflection of hers, but this was not a thing he was going to take a chance on.

It did not take long for the unparalleled Immortal to reassure him that all was well with her and set the tiny ferret back at ease as he pondered the state of the scrolls for a moment.

In the grand scheme of things, it was going to be a significant inconvenience for people if these stopped working, but right now, it was just one more thing amidst the list of things that they didn't have time or the understanding to deal with. As such, he gave one of the fading scrolls, the one that he had been given by Faith for contacting her directly, should it be of any help and moved on with the Tea Party.

A short while later he was presented with a room full of people far above his station. It took a great deal of organising, but they were here... Mostly thanks to
Shinwa's
expertise.

It was a good turn out all in all. Honestly the very idea that he had invited them and they had come was truly mind boggling to him, but as he moved around the gathering inside Chest, Immortals, Mortals, Induks and all alike were greeted and
proffered with tea party snacks
. Even the induks, which may or may not be of a mind to eat actual food, were offered something
charged with energies from their domains if there was any chance Winston could find them
Wind, Fire, Ice and Souls.

Throughout history, there were examples of monumental leaders taking nations, peoples and armies to greatness with no discernable leadership at all. In trials of great need, it sometimes wasn’t the skill in leadership itself that was required, but something else. Something to fill a gap, created by a need, a need large enough to burn across the globe. For some, they were great speech writers, for others godlike tacticians, or perhaps they were just ideally placed puppets or a spectacular socialite and entrepreneur. Whatever the case, in the moments in which they reached greatness, they filled that void and attained brilliance that drowned out the opposition.

On this trial, perhaps despite his meager leadership and tendency to oversimplify matters, this ferret might fulfill something everyone currently needed. Only time might tell whether his speech would be seen as brilliance or madness and lead to revolution or rebellion... Who was to say whether they was a difference between the two?

Blissfully unaware of such philosophical debates, one Winston Miller took up a pedestal and cleared his throat ready to speak.

"'ello everyone! Tanks far commin'."
He shouted above the din.
"Me wud jost like tuh start by saying dat me gat some details an de explosives! Shinwa 'as de papers..."
For anyone that looked, the Wisp did indeed seem to have some papers. In fact, there was a very specific copy just for Kisaik, should he make it, to give him all the alchemical details to be further investigated.
"Et's a lat af infarmashun about de Wildglass vials an' 'ow dem are Drainglass. Me made a littal prototype dat turns de drain glass intuh a chaos liquid powered night-light, bot et's very... Ummm... Tricky."
He said, looking down at himself for a moment and shrugging playfully, using a humorous demeanor to lighten the mood.
"Bot me fine. Soh don't worry! We gat bigga issues tuh deal wid tuhtrial den me failure tuh follow Darius Bear's unparalleled hair-care routine."
If there was any chance it was possible, his charisma and food would cause the gathering to feel at ease as he continued. They needed to be a single group of people totrial.

Downplaying his revelations and current state considerably, he continued with his presentation. Pressing the buttons on the master holo-com that hung around his wrist, causing images all over Scalvaris began to flicker into life. In Beacon, Scalvaris Town, Sweetsong, Almond, Saiore’s Dream… Everywhere he had managed to arrange for a member of Isonomia to get to with a Holo-com was seeing a large, loud ferrety hologram of the humble Cadouri.

”’elloooo!”
He began in a chirpy tone and with a cheeky wave to attract the attention of those around the island.
”Tank yuh so moch far comin’, meh really appreciate yuh time.”
He cleared his throat, taking a deep soothing breath to help him do the words he had spent many late nights meticulously planning. What was coming next was no throw away improvisation. No, it was a practiced delivery from a well known and trusted leader of a faction of idealists.

"I come to yuh tutrial wid a story af a young child, content, safe an' fulfilling dere best life trial by trial as a youngling who idolized dere modder. Deir bond wid daier modda es like noh other. Es wus like she wus dere whole world... Dere narth start... Dem's very 'eart an' soul... Defined by dis relashunship an' de tasks set tuh dem, tings were gud.

Bot den one fateful trial, de child's modda wus killed right before dem's eyes in de most horrific way. Dis par, unfortunate child was utterly devastated an' heartbroken beyond repair by dis experience. Far 'er an' 'er kin were soch dat tinks left indelible marks an dem. Deir entire world, deir purpose, deir very LIFE was torn assunda. De child... a girl... She tried to cope, tried tuh find de way tuh make et right, but the wound never healed. The pain neva faded. An' she went an.

Now defined by 'er pain, a light went out inside 'er. Unable tuh understand, unable tuh cope wid wat 'appened, she lashed out at de world, taking 'er anger an' pain out on oddas."
Winston's empathy for the girl in the story might well have been well tested over the many rehearsals of late, but it was nonetheless genuine and with every inch of his body he poured empathy and sorrow into the telling.

After a powerful pause for the emotions of the listeners to build and their minds to wander to their own loved ones just for a moment, he continued with what he hoped would be 'the hook'.
"Imagine yuh were dis child. Imagine yuh loss an' pain as yuh stared at de grave of yuh modda... Wat cud yuh 'ave done? Wat might yuh do now?

Now, what might yuh do to someone that desecrated yuh modda's memory? Built 'omes an 'er grave. Moved on wid deir lives as ef et didn't matte at all. As if not'ing yuh felt mattered... Wat might yuh do now?

Imagine being a poor soul that never recovered from having the most important person in your life torn away forever, leaving someone consumed by rage, bitterness, and sorrow.

Imagine that soul was Immortal. Imagine having to exist with that burning pain for eternity while beings that came and went in a blink of an eyes crawled all over her effigy... Wat.. might yuh do... now?

Me as sarry tuh admit, tuh me shame, dat me don't tink me cud survive dat with a cheery grin... But Dis es Chrien's stary. Chrien witnessed de violent end af 'er own modda, Fei, firsthand. A trama such as dis might be enough to shatta any af os.

Though she inflicts harm, es a force af nature an' might neva change, cun we not 'ave empathy for Chrien's unending grief? Her destructive behavior, though unacceptable, comes from a place of immense pain and loss that she has never healed fram. Ef we can tap intuh our own experiences af profound lass, maybe we cun find et en our 'earts tuh take a step en anodda direction far dis tortured soul.

Like most, me 'ave last some gud friends, loved ones, en de recent times, bot let us adopt a change, buck de trend, stap fightin' a farce af inevitability and instead join me in a pledge tuh get Chrien through to Fei.

Me not so naive tuh believe dat she will be greatful far dis... De Immartals an' de spirits af Idalas, dem are forces af inevitability in their own realms an' per'aps Chrien will strike me down far even saying dese words. Bot let us not turn our backs on Chrien, but rather extend our hands in compashun. For in her grief, we catch a glimpse af de profoundly mortal emotions that bind us all – love, loss an the overwhelming desire to 'old onto those we cherish most."

He knew the immortals might not be 'people' in the sense that most understood it. Their motives and emotions might be something he could not even hope to begin to understand, however right now he was gambling on generating enough empathy for the image of Chrien's story to create change. Change enough to curry enough favour to achieve the unachievable...

"Totrial, me ask yuh tuh open yuh 'earts an' minds, so dat we not only honor her pain but also elevate our own capacity for empathy and understanding... and, me 'ope, avoid de starm dat we find ourselves within.

Yuh cannat fight de starm... but hopefully, we cun open de dar an' let et pass."

There were other immortals in the very room in which he stood... Immortals that were children of the same entity of which he spoke... Fortunately, none of them were immortals of exploding ferrets and so it was his hope that his impassioned plea to aid their kin did not cause any retribution to befall him.

He was at all times looking across the various eyes around him, but now he turned to the immortals and Induks gathered, listening.
"We need tuh find a way tuh Fei's Fractcha. Will yuh help meh?

Saiore, cun yuh get de right people to the right places tuh open de ways?

Ziell, Immortal af Peace, cun yuh affa a respite far us tuh bring Chrien tuh Fei?

Xiur, cun yuh bring de people Hope, while we do dis? Can you inspire Hope in Chrien to open her to dis path?

Qylios, oh, Qylios, me ask soh much, me know, bot please Bond yuh family, grant our Leadership strength an' de peepal Courage while we tackle dis?

U'frek, Immortal af Navigation, help us find de way... Help Chrien find de way... Help us navigate de Fractcha we 'ead towrads.

And Treid, Immortal af Knowledge & Longing, please 'elp os find de right place to put the right people and bring Chriens attentions to finding Fei an' away fram destroying Scalvaris?"

Each one was address with all the reverence the small ferret could muster...
but no doubt that he needed these things
.

And to the leaders gathered with them, every one of them.
"Please... We cannat fight 'er... We are de candle in de wind. Blown out befar de wick ends. Ef we build boats, she will sink dem. Ef we disable de explosives, dey will make mar... Ef nat far compassion, den consider et far sense."

Before he relinquished the floor, he openly asked very specific things of the higher being present. Giving each one the time and freedom to reply should they so wish.

He sought out Vega and Varlum and, with an apology, asked if they could help him lead this, as it would surely fail if he did it on the strength of his own leadership. He gives Vega the full report on disabling the chaos liquid.

If Kura attends, then he would ask her if she can help arrange alchemists to work with his findings? He ensures she receives copies of his findings either way and offers his and, if Kisaik is willing, Kisaik's help in dealing with it around the venture to Fei's Fracture.

"Cheeeep! Buuddddyyyyy! Me 'ope yuh root 'ave been kep warm pal! Oh mun et's gud tuh see yuh."
He cried, at the first opportunity he got to see his friend.
"'ave yuh seen dis?! Most facinatin' stoff me seen en a lang time! We gat tuh work out 'ow to achemise dis prototype me gat 'ere intu all de Wildglass unda Sclavaris... Soon!"
Winston's eye were alight with a fire that burned brighter than ever. He was on the verge of heading into a fracture of never before seen power and exploring the fringes of alchemy that no one before had done... Dead tomorrow or not, totrial wa a good trial to be this ferret.

  • Treid: Immotal of Knowledge & Longing, please help us find the right place to put the right people and bring Chriens attentions (through longing) to finding Fei and destroying Scalvaris?
  • All the induks: Hold in there. You are the land, the sky, the fire and the very soul of this place. Please let us pass. Let Chrien pass.
  • Asks Vega and Varlum (if he's there) to help lead the Fei Fracture suicide thing.
  • Asks Kisaik to help with the Wildglass alchemy.
  • Asks Kura if she is able to get the alchemists of Scalvaris to help with the production of the disabling alchemy for the exposives.
  • Asks Kisaik if he can help work out how to apply his discoveries surrounding disabling the chaos liquid on mass to the island?

Appearance

When standing at his full height, Winston towers a full 1 foot and one blueberry tall. A fact he will happily demonstrate before flicking said blue orb into the air with his nose and then eating it with a snappy grin.

His eyes are dark and sharp, ringed by dark brown fur upon the bright white fur that sets off across the rest of his face.

Equipement

Winston usually carries the following on his person:
  • Cassion's Locket hangs snugly around his neck.
  • Winston's Fairy Bell hangs from his tool-belt attached to his hip. It's 'ringer' is often bound by a small piece of cloth to prevent it giving away his position while in the wilderness.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Cylus 724
19 Cylus 724
What had Woe done? The search was progressing slowly and they were making their way through layer after layer of the prison when they came across a peculiarity. The seventh level of the prison was missing. According to all immediate sensory information, it was just gone. Whereas all the other levels of the prison had been fairly well defined, there was no clear entrance into the seventh level and given that both men looking had remarkable senses, something was wrong. It had been obfuscated by something stronger than their senses, or the whole level itself had been a lie the entire time and it never existed. Without his magic to definitively tell him whether one thing was true or the otherwise, he had to rely on his more defined senses.

As said, magic was failing but the sensation was strange. It was not the same as paradigm nor the same as another mage cutting off a spark. Balthazar knew the feeling of both. This was something different. Something... annoying. Damn the mundane who knew enough about magic to neutralize it but not enough to raise it from the perspective people held. Balthazar's mystical senses failed as his ether seemed to slowly drain out of him. Fortunately, his mystical senses were less attuned than his mundane ones. He was sure that with a little more time they'd be able to find the entrance. Perhaps the Elements who'd been posted at Slag's Deep knew something that would be useful? They had cleared all the floors before the dead end with enough speed that they could spend a little longer looking for a path into the next portion of the prison.

At least, Balthazar thought they could spend their time searching.

Woe seemed to have a different opinion on the situation. Without asking or waiting for the Elements to answer Balthazar's requests, Woe called in the favor of an immortal.

What followed was beyond Balthazar's control. He'd contribute as much as he could if he felt it was necessary to the betterment of the larger mission. However he was not the one who had called the meeting and he was not one who either Immortal had ever marked. He was being swept into a land where he was only a visitor.

He would behave respectfully as a visitor unless he felt certain needs were not expressed. Even then, he'd restrict what he said. This was not his favor to call in nor was the other Immortal one that he was the champion of. The second was an Immortal he and his wife had offended by not including on the guest list for their wedding. In many ways, Balthazar felt responsible for that. He had left so much planning to Elisabeth while he was the one with perfect memory. He didn't doubt or question her capability, even now. He'd challenge any who did, but he knew that skills and reality never aligned perfectly. She had done everything she could think to do and he had supported it all in his short sighted way. It made some immortals feel left out. Who would have thought? Not him. That was the problem.

Regardless, he would respect where he was and listen to what was said. He suspected he had not been dragged in as a negotiator and so he would only wait for egregious claims before speaking.

However if he was not dragged along with Woe into the Immortal domain as the son of Sintra had hoped, Balthazar would await his response from the Elements. He had just asked them if they knew the path in. If they had any information, even once Woe had made his request, Balthazar would use that information to get closer to the entrance. Then, with limited magic but the might of his own body, Balthazar would try to break through whatever was in his way.
20 - 21 Cylus 724
Rand was dead. Balthazar thought a silent prayer for the late Militant and hoped that death was a release from the prison of his own body. He hoped Vri was a measure more at peace now that Rand wasn't trapped in the coma. He hoped that he hadn't indirectly caused Rand's demise. Rand wasn't the only one to fall. Balthazar wrote a letter to the Albarech and to the acting Militant to request access to the bodies as well as assistance from a Gwelliph. Together they could use the gifts from their immortals to view the entire lifespan of the departed. It was a difficult task but Balthazar had the fortitude of mind to see it through without losing himself to the potential psychological damage.

It had never worked to solve big crimes before but who knew what would happen if they tried again? Perhaps he'd notice things that the dead hadn't and he'd be able to gather clues from that. He didn't know the details of how Shania was found. He might have been more reluctant to delve into her memories given that he had once been killed in the same fashion. He could remember the feeling. The weight in his chest as everything filled with blood. The cold. The dark that followed.

At first he thought it was his memories giving him discomfort but after a calming breath, he realized the sensation hadn't faded. He looked towards his fingertips for any small sparks. He was always the center of a strange field of static electricity but this was something else. It felt like electricity but it wasn't. Was it white noise? No. Balthazar looked around his surroundings for anything that might have been causing it and found nothing in immediate view. Great. Another thing.

If he was given permission and access to the dead, Balthazar would go to where they were. By now there were very few places in Scalvoris he had not gone before and by nature of the island's size, there were few places he couldn't reach within a trial of portal traveling. If one was available, he'd meet with the Gwelliph and coordinate their intelligence. They were both just agents of their immortal's domains hoping to gain some insight to what happened.

That thought frustrated Balthazar. It was always insight to what had happened, not what would happen. He wasn't frustrated with Vri. He was frustrated with himself. The past showed patterns and he was the one failing to recognize them. Even with all his experience he felt ten steps behind these criminals. Centipede. The Crafters. The Phoenix fanatics. All the small groups people seemed to have written off.

Balthazar would go alone for anything he needed to do on the twentieth because it was easier and faster to travel that way. He'd left the Black Cats with instructions to aid any way that they could in helping the businesses who weren't involved in the conspiracy. When arriving at the morgue for the recently dead, he was careful not to touch anything but to keep his eyes open. Any ability afforded to him by Vri was focused on the body or bodies they were shown. When the Gwelliph was prepared and Balthazar had cleared his mind, the two would try to go into the past and experience the life of another.

Actions / Abilities
Actions:
19 Cylus 724
- Balthazar investigates the seventh level of Slag's Deep with Woe.
- If he doesn't get Immortal swept, he is just going to stretch his detection to try and find out where the entrance to Level Seven is- or to find out what's hiding and draining his magic.
20 - 21 Cylus 724
- Balthazar submits requests to the Albarech / Militant to be allowed to view the 'Final Moments' of Rand and Shania's lives. The hope is that it will give them some clue as to who killed them and how everything happened. He also pitches having a Gwelliph join him (Jacien if none other are available) so that they can view all of Shania and Rand's lives.
- If approved he will use portals to get there and attempt to use the abilities on whichever dead they have access to. (Rand / Shania or both).
- If they have access to everything (working with the Gwelliph) he will try to focus on the memories around shake-up times. For example; Balthazar exposing Jacien as an Element, the last attack, and anything in Rand or Shania's past that mentions Centipede, The Crafters, the Phoenix Faction, or any other of the little groups currently under investigation.

Abilities / Items Used:
Tier 2 Detection (Looking for the hidden Level Seven if he doesn't get taken to Woe's immortal meet up)
- All-Seeing: Balthazar's senses have been refined so thoroughly that they allow him the ability to perceive the presence of sentient beings, creatures and objects hidden by any sort of mundane barrier (hollow floors, shadows, buildings, boxes, concealed weapons, etc). When actively focusing his senses to search his surroundings Balthazar gains a perfect sense of anything concealed through conventional/non-magic means within his range of perception. Using all of his senses he can gather basic information about hidden subjects (size, person or animal, etc.) but overcoming the concealment and interacting with whatever is hidden would require other abilities.

It is important to note that this ability works to counter passive concealment the majority of the time. If someone or something were to actively attempt to hide from Balthazar it would require a Tier 2 level ability or skill to match his level of detection.

Bellinos (To examine Rand/Shania)
- Final Moment: A Favored of Vri has the ability to experience the last few minutes of a corpse’s life. They experience the death as if it were happening to them and only come out of the trance when the experience has ended. This is always a jarring and emotionally devastating ability to use as one can never quite get ‘used’ to dying, but it can reveal remarkable clues and insights as to the wishes or circumstances behind a death. A body must be presented, mostly intact (Within a Cycle or two of age), for the ability to work.

or

- Final Moment (With Gwelliph): However, by working in unison, the Gwelliph and Bellinos are both able to see, feel and fully experience the death of the individual and can also see their past. The whole life is opened up before the blessed, who has access to all memories and emotions of the deceased. This can be incredibly overwhelming and requires high levels of Discipline or Meditation in order to withstand. If either the Gwelliph or the Bellinos are overwhelmed during this process, it is likely to cause medium to long term psychological problems; these might be things such as getting memories confused, losing one’s own memories for a time etc.
Items
- Ring of Renown (Attempts to find the victim of looting- order of investigations in the post)A a silver ring that when worn on his finger, imbues the wearer, with an ability similar to Gwelliph's Show Yourself. When worn on his finger, Balthazar gains the ability to meditate on a crime he knows information about. After adequately thinking about the crime Balthazar's eyes begin to glow a bright blue and he is able to see a glowing, blue, mist-like trail leading to either the victim of the crime or the last place they were. The trail does not take into account the environment and therefore moves straight through obstacles rather than around them. This ability works no matter how long ago the crime was committed. The ring can only be activated once per trial and lasts until the victim is found or the search is consciously abandoned. Balthazar can only maintain two trails at a time.

Visible Mutations/ Marks

Mutations
Defiance: Skin always glows faintly and he is warm to the touch. His is also the center of a field of static electricity so people get shocked touching him on occasion.
Rupturing: Orange etheric cracks spider-web up his arms to his elbows. His eyes and the glowing cracks going down his cheeks glow dark blue.
Transmutation: He has a series of emerald, glowing cracks on his right pectoral.
Marks
Bellinos: His fingernails are always black. The color fades into his fingers.
Celarion: A dim glowing ring surrounds his left forearm.
Palenon: A silver lightning shaped mark about the size of a hand stretching up towards his torso.

Scars

  • Oops, Oops, Ouch: Balthazar Black has twenty scars across his back from a lashing as well as scars on his hands and arms from jagged rocks on Faldrass. There are two scars on the sides of his abdomen from being stabbed and a slash across his back which blends in with the whip scars.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Image

Woe does indeed sweep Balthazar along on his way to the Immortal Domain of Chamadarst to aid in the bargaining between Woe, Chamadarst, ,and Cassion. The Champion level ability doesn't say it can be resisted or declined.

When and if they exited the domain of Chamadarst, for whatever reason the day of the 19th had turned in their absence. There was nothing unusual about this really, as they both knew time flowed differently in Emea, and perhaps an Immortal's Domain was no different. Either way, Woe got out of Slag's Deep afterward (presumably) witih whatever intelligence he'd gathered, and immediately shared it to the Echo Scroll Network, although it appeared the scroll was low on... ink? Odd.

Things in general around ensorcelled and magic items were acting differently, ,which was a strangeness that demanded inquiry. Usually the magics of items were self contained with few exceptions, mostly disciplines that directly impacted ether such as Transmutation. Famula's eye, from what Woe understood of it, was also capable of shutting down magic items. He checked on the trinket on his way out of Slag's Deep, to ensure that its magic and power was perhaps not as affected as other things.

Then, his next instinct upon receiving the cavalcade of intelligence pouring in, was to go to Gunvorton, but Balthazar had indictated that he would investigate the dead, and Woe not wanting to interfere having already done so rudely to Balthazar recently, decided not to accomopany him to the site of Shania's death. Balthazar was arguably a better investigator than he, anyway,. He would only remind Balthazar of the vision and prophecy he'd had of Shania, which apparently had changed, since the future was different now.

The next day or so, the 20th and 21st, namely, were spent coralling his people who remained in Sclavoris. Crawford Shipley was made to handle (as best he could) the aid to the eastern half of Scalvoris. From Beacon, to Egilrun, and then down to Darbyton if posible. Radburn Salvatore Was given to Vega to help with the distribution through the middle of the Island, mostly toward Sclavoristown, down to Gunvorton. And then, finally, Woe employed Korm Zy'Azour to deal with the situation with Almund and Havardr, and ensure aid was delivered in a orderly and sensible fashion to those locations. All the while, they were to collect as much information from people they helped through the distribution of aid, getting a small trickle of whateveer they'd seen, and filtered back in through their echo scrolls that they held with Woe. Woe in turn would share that information with the rest of the network.

When all was said and done, and the time for the Tea Party came, Woe would return to Scalvoristown, and stay at the Council House in order to be on hand to deal with whatever fallout resulted from that event.
Actions
Woe does his thing on the 18th and 19th with Balthazar.

Woe then focuses on the distribution of aid through his three npcs (who have good skills for that purpose, or abilities in the case of Radburn Salvatore.) to focus on delivering aid to those left on the island, all while collecting information from those helped.

The final action was to arrive at the Scalvoris Town Hall and manage things from there for now, in the event of fallout from the Tea Party.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Image

The miners were apparently in no mood to surrender. Despite being both outnumbered and surrounded - perhaps because of it - they had drawn weapons and even the one who had been herded back down the tunnel by Rua appeared to have regained his appetite for a fight. And as it began, the metallic sounds of blades meeting each other echoing through the tunnel, Darius realised he had made an error of judgment.

He had assumed that these three men were outsiders; perhaps new to the settlement but ultimately interlopers. After all, the attackers had come from across the sea. It made sense to assume the attack coming from beneath the soil was also the work of outlanders.

But this was not so. Whether or not it had been the darkness of the tunnel casting unfamiliar shadows over familiar faces, it was only as blades were slashing that he recognised them. The men who appeared to have been attempting to literally undermine the manor bore familiar faces. Joachim and Ryland, both farmers, and Erik, a labourer, had not only made Hopetoun their home, but they had made tangible contributions to the settlement.

Darius called them by name, hoping to reason with them even as blades were swung, and it was then that he noticed them: small shards of marble on their bodies. So, in a way, Joachim, Ryland, and Erik were not Joachim, Ryland, and Erik at all. It seemed much less likely that they wished to bring ruin to the settlement, and much more that they had been driven to madness.

"Don't kill them!" be yelled to his soldiers. "Best them, but don't kill them. And don't touch the marble!"

But he knew the miners themselves would not be so merciful, and they had to be stopped.
OOC

In the tunnel, Darius will initially call on Ledas, Rua, and Katara to help the guards overwhelm the miners. They will be instructed to knock the men unconscious - a thump to the back of the head from a bear ought to do it!

However, if it doesn't, he will call on Faldrass with his Avatar of Faldrass ability to rapidly change the ambient temperature in the confined space, relying on his Blazing Heart ability to keep him conscious while the miners (hopefully) and the guards (unfortunately) faint.

Once the miners are unconscious (by either means above) the marble can be carefully removed and the miners themselves subdued (and even have their hands bound until it is clear that they are no longer a threat).

Throughout this encounter, Darius' Leadership capstone Local Boy Done Good should prove helpful.

At the meeting with the Immortals, Darius will play a mostly passive role (partly because they're Immortals and thus respect and caution must be prioritised). He will explain Hopetoun's experience, and will offer to help where he can. He will speak when spoken to, and offer his services in whatever way they are deemed helpful (including helping with the fleet).

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Kura looked over the reports she had received over the past few days. Evacuations were proceeding nicely, and they'd even made some progress on identifying some of the threat they faced. The problem was that they hadn't made any progress on disabling the explosives or determining why they had been set. This wasn't a Pirate Lord plot, that much she was certain of. Destroying the island as a whole didn't make much sense from their viewpoint, at least not as far as she could figure it. She was disinclined to believe it was the action of any foreign territory either, which left some sort of apocalyptic cult, which was likely given the disappearances of their local criminal groups, or the scheme of an Immortal. The only one that would fit the latter was, to Kura's mind, Chrien. But Kura found that unlikely, if only because she believed Chrien was more likely to just smash the island manually than do some sort of complicated scheme like this. She'd been wrong about Chrien before, of course, so she didn't discount the possibility. There was the tea party that Winston proposed, of course, but she definitely didn't think that was a good idea.

Still, she was going to attend. But before that, she had to try and guide Scalvoris through this as several of her Councilors died and no doubt others evacuated. Not that she could blame any of the latter, she had made sure to send her own family to Rharne. They were worried that she'd die here, and had wanted her to come with them. She understood the fear, they had only recently lost Faith. But she had showed them the Ring of Revival that she had been given the last time Chrien had tried to kill her and explained what it did. She had been wearing it ever since the vision of the destruction of the island. Her family had endured enough loss, and she wasn't going to put them through more loss, even though she had to stay and do her duty. Which, with a sigh, she turned her attention back to as she pushed her worries about her family out of her head for now.

What Kura Does

20th: Orders the closure of the Eclipse Portals. While she recognizes them as helpful for evacuation, if they overload and explode, it could lead to even more death and destruction, which they definitely do not need, especially if it spreads to where the Portals link to, most notably Rharne where many of their people have evacuated to.

She orders an arial sweep of the area over Fei's Ruins in Scaltoth, and does tell the Scaltoth tribes what she's doing.

She orders what medical aid can be provided to Havardr, Darbyton, Almund, and Scalvoris Town.

She has the Drain Glass that Viden sent tested to make sure it's actually the same stuff they encountered before.

She also has the glass that Vega found in the cabin tested as well. She does not send word to Viden about this second set of glass.

Orders Jacien to investigate the deaths of Shania and Rand. Approves Balthazar joining the investigation when he asks.

She issues a statement ordering ships to be ready for further evacuation at all harbors. She offers Vega a permanent position as head of the Elements in Rands death, as well as states that they need Elements in Almund to get the crime under control before it interferes with any attempts at evacuation in the future.

Beacons crafters are ordered to be ready to assist in production efforts.

21st: Kura will give the order for the alchemists of Scalvoris and any auxiliary personnel that can assist (such as the crafters of Beacon or the glassworkers of Darbyton) to begin production and distribution of the alchemy immediately.

During the discussions of Chrien, Kura will point out that she's tried to calm Chrien down from destroying the island before and Chrien killed her about it.

She'll also ask Saoire to, if possible, shield anyone that would be directly discussing matters with Chrien.

She will also ask Saoire if she can help with distributing the alchemy, citing her and her people's ability to deliver presents all over Idalos in a single day every year as the reason why she's asking for her aid in this specifically.

She'll also note that if they want Chrien to be able to talk to Fei, they need to bring Famula on board. She points out that she has at least one Zuuda working for her and suggests they ask him to pray to Famula for them in regards to the matter, if that's what they want.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Among the trinkets he collected from the fish along the shoreline, exchanged for bits of food and other small objects he bargained away, the shards of glass stood out more than most. Not because he knew what they were, really, but simply because they were out of place among the shiny rocks, bits of metal, and other easily-identifiable pieces of detritus. Separating what he'd collected into piles, he pocketed the glass in a leather bag, and discarded the rest, implying to the fish that when he returned, if they could collect more of the strange glass and other things like it, he'd have more rewards for them - the bigger the haul, the more he'd offer. They were only small fish, with limited understanding, and he doubted they'd remember for long... but who knew. If word caught on, perhaps he'd return to a sizeable hoard, and clear up the ocean bed all at the same time.

Qylios' answer was... surprising. He didn't think anyone would be willing to answer him now, least of all her, but the debt was not a small one, and his needs were dire - he'd worry about making it up to her another time. "I'm sure." His sword hung at one hip and his dagger at another. A bow strapped with its quiver full between his shoulder blades, and pockets bristling with wolf-puppies. "If anything, four days might be too short." There was never a time more appropriate to say that he was kitted with everything he owned. Stowed in saddlebags and backpacks, across the backs of wolves, Hyx and Scalv Sohr Khal. He considered it an act of caution, considering there was no telling what he'd end up finding there. He didn't even remember if time worked the same way, like in Emea, where the lack of suns or moons had made the days and nights flow together into an endless string.

Plus, he hadn't missed what she'd said. At least four. Could mean five. Could mean a hundred. Qylios wouldn't do something cruel to him, he wouldn't dare think so lowly of her, but he liked to think he knew when someone was vague to hide that they simply didn't have a real answer. Just in case, he'd bring whatever he needed for a fire, or a camp, or a life. Just in case, he took a bird from a tree, filled its beak with seed, its claws with his Friend Stone, and its head with as clear a description of Kura Wolfsdotter as it could handle. For clarity, he also scribbled a note on a piece of paper and tied it around one of the bird's legs before sending it off. Just in case he needed a quick escape. Or in case she needed one.
Kura,

I've left to find the source of the bombs, and whoever made them. You're the only person who knows.
Everyone's come with me, should be back in four days.
In case I don't come back or something bad happens, hold this rock and say my name.
It'll open a portal for us to meet. Saoire calls it a Friend Stone.
Even if we don't use it, you should have it.

Nir'wei
"May Cassion give me a good tale to tell," he offered, "and let me live to tell it." Then he turned to Qylios. "Do it."
Actions
1. Nir'wei sends a bird to Kura with his Friend Stone, complete with a letter of what it is and how to use it.

2. Nir'wei assembles everything he owns, including all companions and animals, and accepts Qylios' warning. He's going to the Miasma.

Re: The Pirate Finale!

Image
Before the Tea Party

"It's official," Vega said with a slight, tense smile. "I love Winston. Right. I'm assignin' two o' you to him. Keep him alive, would you because, if there's anyone about who is tryin' to sabotage us, then that'll be where I'd hit." So, she made sure that there were always Elements with him, and they reported back very (very) regularly. Winston had, in her mind, just become the Goose that laid the Golden Egg. Then she asked him to consider something. "So, if this Chaosglass negates this bad stuff, then my questions are. What format can you make this Chaosglass - solid, liquid, gas, I mean. If you can make it into a liquid what solidifies, could we literally jus' pour it over the existing vials an' then it solidifies an' they're negated? Rather than movin' them or messin' around. If so, an' if that would work, then we're goin' to need a lot of it. If we can't do that, can it be used as a barrier against the effects / containin' the liquid an' glass? If so, can we make sheets of it?

And finally, Winston, does it have to be glass? Cos if it can be metal I can make us limitless amounts of it, an' I can make it liquid then immediately solidify it."

Balthazar - Vega's reply was simple. "It's up to you, but I don't think we can afford to lose you too -an' people know who you are an' who your patron Immortal is. Jus' be aware it might be a trap." And, of course, she offered for any protection he might need - whilst acknowledging that she didn't think he would need it. In many ways, Vega thought that it was a good idea but her explanation to Balthazar was simple. It was a risk and she wasn't sure that it was a risk they needed to take right now.

When Kura ordered the closing the Eclipse Portals, Vega raged. She wrote a very quick letter to the Alberach, and it was simple. "Dear Kura. If you're plannin' on doin' things like this, talk to me first. If you don't, then you're stoppin' me from doin' the job you've asked me to do. I know an' I understand that it's hard right now, but I'm deployin' people an' workin' out timin' an' shifts etc. I need that information.

Also, regardin' the order of an arial sweep over Fei's ruin, no. I'm not prepared to risk our people. Please read the report I put in re: Scaltoth From Pigs' modnote on my post. "The tribesmen that Vega meets with on her excursion into Scaltoth inform her that the Ruins of Fei have formed a barrier of pure dread. None of the tribals will approach it, and anyone who can feel fear, is driven from its vicinity. The barrier appears to play upon the emotions, to a point. Those who were stout enough of heart (gm or higher discipline or equivalent) have reported feeling such dread that it threatened their health, and they had to turn back." - I am happy to go back there, but it's not really a surprise that they're misbehavin' an' we need to focus on protectin' our people.

Finally, I would point out that Jacien is head of the Spirit Branch of the Elements. Quit orderin' him to do things an' - I ask again - let me do the job you've given me. While I understand that the deaths of Shania an' Rand are important, we have limited time an' limited resources. If you want to know what happened to them, get Varlum to find out - he's the one wiht the magic library an' this is not somethin' that you need to know today.

I'm happy to take on the role of Militant in a permanent role, but I'm not prepared to bust my gut for you to tromp over what you've asked me to do. So, be clear. If you ask me - I'll do it. But I'll do it properly an' there'll be no back-seat drivin'.

Re: Elements in Almund. Yes. We've upped patrols. I'm there now.

Re: Beacon. Beacon isn't defended well. I suggest askin' all crafters to move to Egilrun. That will boost Egilrun, an' it will mean that we are less spread out. I'm also goin to try an deal with Harvardr, Egilrun an' Darbyton by combinin' forces there.

Vega.

She first went around Almund. There, she focused on being seen. On bashing heads for those who needed their heads bashing. On helping those who needed help. But also, she picked a spot in collaboration with the Order of the Adunih and then made a Brightgleam Oasis, so they had access to magic healing. She contacted Varlum and asked him to focus here and she used her Xiur-granted abilities to bring optimism and calm.

Then, she left for Darbyton. The people there were tough and resiliant and were currently lacking leadership. Kura had merged the Elements and the Rangers, but that left Darbyton in a sort of limbo, and Vega saw a tactical advantage. So, she went there and she spoke to the people. She did it in her usual way. "I know that Darbyton is used to bein' the centre of the Rangers, an' the Rangers have always been the force what dealt with the reality of Scalvoris wilds - an' Darbyton is the gateway to all of Scalvoris, wilds an' town. Right now, I need your help. I know that Oram isn't here an' things are tricky, but we have to pull together now, an' deal with what's in front of us. So, I'm goin' to ask you to help around the island. All of it. If you will, I'll be more grateful than I can tell you an' I promise you, I will do everythin' I can to make sure that every voice is heard." She wasn't fussy about things, she didn't make promises she couldn't keep - but she used every bit of persuasion and leadership she had.

And then, she went to Havardr and did exactly the same.

As she flew, she organised and planned the best course of action for Egilrun and Beacon and the places like them. Those who didn't evacuate would be best to come to central populations, but honestly, Vega thought it would be better if they all sorted out and evacuated. She kept making sure that hte message was clear. If there was something they needed to do, the first question to be asked was, could it be done in a place of safety? If it could - then it should be done in Rharne. The end.

The Tea Party

And then, there was the Tea Party.

Vega wasn't sure about being there. She felt that it might be good, but equally, it was very important that things were taken care of. In the end, however, she decided that she needed to be a clear and present Also, since she was so busy pointing out to Kura to butt out and let her do her job, Vega needed to practice what she preached. As such, she spoke to her remaining deputy and gave Jacien clear instructions. Gunvorton needed leadership. Now. Balthazar wanted to investigate - a fact she understood. She wondered if perhaps it would make sense to ask Balthazar to take temporary point in Gunvorton. As the main way in to Scalvoris via boat, though, she felt very strongly that they needed to have as many Elements there as possible. HAving drawn up her plans and - hopefully - using the people from Darbyton and Harvardr to populate it, she left it in his hands for a few hours. And, of course, just before it started, she played for Winston and used every ability she had to help him.

When she saw Winston, Vega knelt next to him. "Let me heal you a bit? I can make you less tired, at least?" If he allowed her to, she made use of her "Restorative aura" from her Vindecaldra Effigy. When he waved his paw, Vega gave him one of those looks. "Things aren't so bad we need to by lyin' to each other, Winston. Shurrup, an' let me help you. That way I can be sure that if you blow yourself up, it's not my fault."

After Winston's speech, and his very heartfelt story, Vega looked at him calmly. "I understand it. An' I feel sorry for that kid, I really do. But what if openin' that Fracture, what if findin' a way to Fei means more grief, not a relief of it? We don't know it won't - as far as we know, Fei is as dead as dead can be. An' I'm all for tryin' to help her, Winston, but what if in doin' that we make it worse? Fei is dead, an' that's the issue. The lost city of Pyk, yeah, the place where she died, oh I'm with that. But openin' that fracture, it's not a good look. Though, who knows, we might get lucky."

And then, she turned to the Immortals and the Induks and she spoke. "The way I see it, the best thing that we can do is to try an' do as Winston's askin', but to separate the fracture site from Scalvoris. To give Chrien a way to access her mother's tomb, an' a way to keep it safe an' apart from the island."

To the Induks, she asked. "The portals an' the echo scrolls are bein' weird. Is that because of the strangeness goin' on?"

To Saoire - "We need those portals to get people out. Can you strengthen them an' do you happen to know what's goin' on with the Eclipse portals?"

If it was decided that they were going to do this, then Vega would go where needed. But tactically, she thought that maybe the thing to do was to provide the pathway and to let Chrien go and do. And as for the alchemising of the glass - she'd already had some ideas and she hoped that Winston could help. If not, then there were people in Sweetsong who would, she was sure.
