Who Haunts Who? (Nightshade Eld)

Known colloquially as the "Realm of Dreams", Emea is a mysterious place accessed primarily beyond the realm of consciousness as the mortal body sleeps in Idalos. The mind travels far at night and Emea's not without its unique risks and dangers, though Jesine's vigilance keeps mortals mostly safe.

The white whale flew over the deep ocean, loving the feel of the wind over its skin, of feeling weightless. It wasn't nearly as nimble or quick as the fish that darted around the sky with it, but there was a power to its stride, a grace. It let loose a beautiful bellowing song as it soared. And standing upon its lip, rubbing against its baleen, was a black and brown spotted cat. Cat'ria had been busy for most of this voyage, chasing whale lice. But once she'd eaten them all, she settled into her favorite spot with her large flying friend. She had decided to take a vacation from her village of Meownmar, as it was going through some religious revolution that she had no interest in.

She didn't ask where her friend, Whaleter White, was heading, she just wanted to come with. She loved listening to her friend sing, even if she couldn't understand the deep, longing notes. Whaleter was the last of his kind, but he often came and visited Meownmar, bringing visitors, and taking new ones out. Cat'ria was glad to no longer be bound to that wild pig form. While it was fun for a bit, it grew old. She was meant to be a Cat. They were, after all, the supreme beings of this world.

Cat'ria still couldn't see land yet, though Whaleter had told her it wouldn't be too much longer. She jumped up to his top lip, grabbing it with her claws and pulling herself up, knowing they were too short to do him any damage. She continued bounding over his face until she reached the top, looking back at the wide variety of beings that were catching a ride upon her friend's back. There were humans, of course. Pesky things were everywhere. There were other Cats, and Animals of many differing types. And some beings she didn't recognize. But it didn't matter. She was a Cat, and therefore the most important one here, simple as that.

Cat'ria moved forward toward the group, looking for anyone of interest, or if anyone might pay her homage. Preferably with food. Or shiny things. She slinked through legs, trying to get a read on those that were here.

One of the most noticeable creatures to hop onto the back of the whale was a strange thing, not often seen in the sky. They were known to swim, deep down below. Graceful and dark with feathers like midnight. She creature was no very graceful up in the sky, let alone on the back of the whale, as she hopped about trying to make her way to a comfortable spot without being stepped on. Ravenshade tilted her head as she tried to find somewhere the long-legged people wouldn't step upon her. Her movements were labored as she made her way around, each hop seemingly taking huge amounts of effort. Occasionally she flapped her wings for the purpose of alerting others to her presence, black feathers fanning outwards and occasionally a downy plume or two escaping her midnight shaded appendages.

When someone did manage to step on her the small creature would cry out and poke them with her beak. Not aggressively, but more so in a panic, telling them that she existed down there on the ground. Eventually, the little bird came face to face with Cat'ria. She tilted her head ever so slightly as though she wasn't sure what to make of cat. She didn't make any kind of vocalizations, instead, she simply gazed. There was a mixture of curiosity and fear in her eyes. Birds were not fond of cats. At least not wild cats. They liked to eat small birds and collect their feathers. The young raven was nowhere near small, being hawk-like in size if not a little larger. Possibly even larger than the cat. But she was still cautious as she fluffed up her feathers.

Taking a careful hop backward she tilted her head to the other side, still trying to get a good read on the presence of the cat and what it intended to do. Would it chase her and try to eat her? If that was the case it would be best to escape the whale before it left, but it was starting to seem as if that option was no longer available. With the last person boarding the whale, it began to make its way through the sky. Ravenshade could feel her heart dropping with the fear of being so very close to a cat of all creatures with nowhere to run.

Cat'ria saw a Bird, and found her curiosity piqued. Birds, proper Birds, not birds, were a rarity in and around Meownmar. To Cat'ria, it was obvious. Birds were simply inferior creatures to cats. She wondered what this one was like. She felt the ground shift, but with her perfect balance, she shifted with it, as Whaleter White took off. She forgot to ask him where he was off to this time, but she didn't care. Somewhere new was all she wanted.

After a decent bit of sauntering, she wandered over to the Bird. It was a good sized bird, a bit larger than her. But skittish looking. The bird looked ready to flee at the drop of a hair. Good. Birds should be nervous of Cats. She smirked a bit, just locking eyes with the Bird, and swaying her head and shoulders back and forth. She continued closer until she was in striking distance. She stopped moving, hiking her haunches and tail, her eyes narrowing and with a sudden motion...

She sat down, and began licking her paw.

After a long silence, "Wherrrrre arrrre you frrrrom? Wherrrrrrre arrrre you going, darrrrrrrrrlin'?" She looked around, seemingly disinterested. It was amazing how fast and smooth Whaleter could fly. It must be part of a Whale's abilities. Despite the speed and open air ride, no one was even at risk of being blown off. All of the Animals had their own abilities. Fish and water mammals could fly and survive in the air, among other things she was sure. Cats had a plethora, they could jump from any height and land softly, walking on top of water without getting wet, etc.

It never failed to amaze her how the clouds looked up close. So fluffy looking. She wondered what they felt like. Tasted like. She glanced back to the bird. "You'rrrrre quite lovely... Would you like to come up frrrront with me? Best seat arrrrrround. Just you... and me."

Ravenshade watched the cat carefully at it approached, wondering how she herself should react. She could try and run from the creature but she didn't think she could outrun it. Fighting it wouldn't end well either. So she stood there paralyzed while the cat approached her. When the creature dropped into a crouch adrenaline started to rage in the body of the Bird, so she herself mimicked the movements so to stay. She brought herself lower, legs bending, as she spread she wings slightly and allowed her feathers to fluff. And then, just like that, the cat relaxed. The Bird, however, did not.

She continued to watch the Cat carefully, eyes locked completely on the creature. "I don't know," she said quietly. There was honestly in her voice as well as confusion like she wasn't entirely sure what she was doing. She couldn't remember and she felt lost. She asked so many other creatures who she was and where she was going, and none of them could ever answer. Some looked at her with sympathy and a shrug, while others looked at her with something akin to disgust. But no one ever gave her an answer. But Cats were always the worst. The looks at her with these confident, smug smirks whenever she said she didn't know. They would sometimes laugh and say 'oh what a poor creature' as they shook their heads and grinned. 'What a poor creature not to know such a thing. You must be absolutely worthless!' That's what she knew they were actually saying. It made her frustrated beyond words. But the Bird remained quiet, looking at the Cat as it continued to groom. Would this Cat be like all the others? The bird had yet to see.

The Cat spoke once again, eyes glittering in a way that the Bird couldn't quite place. Her heart started to beat faster as the Cat spoke. She wasn't sure how she felt about being alone with it, and the way it said lovely had given her chills. She wasn't sure in what way to describe those chills either. "Okay," the words were out of her beak before her brain had given her tongue to order. She was almost taken off guard by her own vocalization. Why would she agree? Why would she do this to herself? But it was too late to go back now. She'd already agreed, and her pride wouldn't let her back out. She'd look like a coward, and she wasn't going to let the Cat win.
