What Went On
Image
Ymiden
(83 days)

Weather To Expect

Trial Trial 1-8

Image
Ymiden marks the beginning of Hot Cycle and the start of rising heat in the north. Viden experiences a long period of sun that introduces a heat wave to the city, something that is not often seen. For the most part, both the days and nights remain clear and cloudless.

Trial 9-22

Image
Clouds begin to roll in, covering up the twin suns regularly, though sun shine still strikes through from time to time. Winds pick up, blasting the city with gusts that threaten to steal that hats off Viden's citizens.

Trial 23-52

Image
Temperatures drop and Viden returns to the cool city buried in snow. Over several trials, snow flurries sprinkle on rooftops and slowly accumulate in inches. This is seen as normal weather in Viden.

Trial 53-83

Image
Viden experiences another heat wave that spikes the temperature back up. Though there is still snow on the ground, it is apparent that the climate is becoming warmer. The clouds from the previous trials have almost receded, but few remain.

  • 1st - The beginning of the Hot Cycle and Ymiden.
7th - An unusually early "heat wave" hits the city - citizens and visitors alike remove an underlayer of clothing to mark this occasion (whilst keeping their cloaks on).
11th - The troupe of minstrels decide to depart the city, and make the announcement that they will leave on the 18th day.
17th - On their last night, the troupe of minstrels put on a show in the Playhouse for all to enjoy. It is a light-hearted comedy, played in the hopes that the city will remain in high spirits.
18th - As the troupe of minstrels prepare to depart, one of their number is found dead behind the Playhouse.
23rd - Flurries of snowfall occur over the coming few days, however they are light, and are viewed with fondness - a reminder that summer is here. The light fall - and relatively warmer temperatures - allow children and adults alike to enjoy the snow in ways much like the southerners would.
37th - Investigations into the death of the minstrel continue, until an arrest is finally made: a human working in a pottery shop.
42nd - A tribunal is quick to occur, the accused found guilty and sentenced to exile.
45th - The troupe of minstrels finally leave, though with much less joy than their intended date of departure.
46th - The military is mobilised when there is an unconfirmed sighting of Mer in the Bay of Synnefa, ready to defend their lands.
54th - Temperatures rise to above zero degrees, and stay there a little more permanently.
61st - The Viden Infirmary is robbed during the night. The culprit is never found, however the employees are required to work extra shifts in order to rejuvenate stocks.
62nd - The Infirmary announces that it will only be supporting citizens of the city or visiting staff and students of the Academy, to lessen the pressure on the workforce.
83rd - The end of the season of Ymiden.
Saun
(40 days)
Weather To Expect

Trial 1-23

Image
Saun has arrived and though the temperature remains warm, thick clouds cover up the skies. There is no rain, sleet, or snow during this period of time, though the wind is ever prevalent.

Trial 24-30

Image
Temperatures drop and Viden returns to the cool city buried in snow. Over several trials, snow flurries sprinkle on rooftops and slowly accumulate in inches. This is seen as normal weather in Viden.

Trial 31-33

Image
Hail rains down upon the city, in such heavy waves that a few even have to visit the Infirmary for the cuts on exposed sections of skin.

Trial 34-40

Image
The weather for Saun closes out the season below zero as the Videnese prepare for the long Cold Cycle. Thick clouds cover up the sky once again and snow begins to fall.

  • 1st - The beginning of Saun.
6th - The Hot Springs close for three days, while the weather is good, in order for the facilities to be cleaned thoroughly, as happens only once a year due to demand for the facilities.
7th - After many days of careful searching, there is no confirmation of Mer in the area around Viden, however the military remains on its guard.
18th - With the end of the Hot Cycle looming, a number of oxen are brought in for the slaughter. Volunteers are drafted in to assist with the mammoth task of sorting through the animals.
22nd - The treatment of the meat from the oxen begins, in order to see enough of the product last throughout the cold, winter seasons. Much of it is placed straight into storage.
24th - The temperature drops below zero degrees and the mood instantly drops - people know the cold is returning.
25th - The prices in Madam Teviot's shop for furs skyrockets: customers can now expect to pay 1.5 more than they would have otherwise.
30th - The Reserve Vaults are restocked in preparation for the harsh days to come.
32nd - Hail rains down upon the city, in such heavy waves that a few even have to visit the Infirmary for the cuts on exposed sections of skin.
37th - A new band of travelling minstrels and players arrives in the city, to the joy of the Videnese: with the harsh winds coming in, they know that soon the paths to and from the city will be blocked
40th - The end of the Hot Cycle brings in the coldest weather of the year for the long-suffering Videnese citizens.
