(Merk Pass) Price of a Man

Stronghold of education and learning, this fortress is in one of the coldest areas of Idalos and home to many knowledge seekers in a variety of disciplines. However, unknown to most, below the city are those who suffer for the sake of science. While all are welcome, not everyone will be treated as they expect

(Merk Pass) Price of a Man

Wed Oct 09, 2019 1:31 pm

28th of Vhalar 719

Wald was jolted awake from his sleep, with chains shaking from his movements. His stomach was cramping again, the pain reached through his body. It had been Trials since his last proper meal, only being fed a boiled mess of grains. His body was used to having fresh meat, a few trials in between at most. It was not taking the change of diet well, as the lack of protein was getting to the man. It felt as if his body was trying to eat itself. The only time he was satisfied was during the execution in the arena. When he was back in his cell, his body was not cramping until a few trials later.

The force of his stomach's growls and cramps caused the man to start coughing. Contracting his chest in the pain, his body was beaten down harshly. Forced to fight constantly, only to be under fed and under rested. His vision would constantly blur out in front of him, though even in the blur he could clearly see the child in the corner. Wald looked slowly to Rasul, something about the sight of the young boy made Wald happy. More calm. He could get through more because of them being by his side.

A few slow blinks, as the pain slowly faded into the background. The cell faded back into view, though it was still sheer darkness. At least he could see the chains that bound him now, he pulled on them slowly. Even with that he would not go free. "Why try?" Rasul spoke softly in their broken common.

Wald tilted his head, and gave a slow sigh. The child was right, there was no point in fighting the chains that bound him. Even if he tried for a thousand Arcs he would get no closer. He was a man, not some sort of Immortal being. But he slowly let his voice exit to answer the boy. "Because... My family is waiting for me." It was the only think keeping him going, he needed to get out for them. Nothing else truly mattered to the man anymore. He would try and think of how to escape, but his mind was so fuzzy now he could not plan.

Footsteps could be heard growing near the cell, there were at least five sets. It was not for his daily feeding, at least, not the normal one.

Wald watched the iron gate open, as the men began to flow in. Four of them walked to the sides of Wald, undoing the shackles, but holding each one of his limbs. Soon they lifted him into the air, this was unlike what he was use to. Though Wald did not struggle, as it would only mean that the fifth one would likely punish the hunter. He was carried off down the hall. Past the cells of prison slaves, as he watched Rasul walk behind the grouping of men. His head titled, why did they not restrain him? Perhaps it was because he was only a child, not really a threat to them. That made since enough for Wald to look forward slightly.

The group brought him into a new room he had yet to be in. He was tossed in, and they began to strip away his clothing. Soon enough he was exposed completely, before the men kicked him to the ground. Ice water began to get poured over his body, the temperature was not effecting him. As he could only feel the small cubes of ice pelt him. They continued to do so, as the water that flooded off the man was black. Soon it turned brown. Then finally it started to get clear. They cleaned the man off for some reason.

Wald shook his body, as the group grabbed some cloth to dry him off. Perhaps all this was for the customer that was apparently wanting to buy Wald. It would make since to clean the product to make it more appealing, could get a slightly higher price for maintenance. He was soon re-clothed, and taken out of the room to another. This time he knew the room well.

The red glow of coals lit the room up. Wald was back in the same room where they branded his left shoulder. The scarred man was working on something in the corner before he noticed the group. He had a sinister smile, as he held a large metal object. "Ya was a great investment." Soon the man latched the metal object around Wald's waist. After, he grabbed each hand latching them to the object as well. His arms were chained to his waist, he could only move them a few centimeters in any direction. This was likely for safety during transport. It would keep his arms from being able to use force.

He was soon escorted out of the room, to a more lit area of the place. He had no clue that this kind of light existed inside the building of stone. It was a odd surprise to the shackled hunter.

Wald was walked into a well lit room, a table was sitting in the center. Chairs surrounding it, with a woman and a man sitting at the table. The woman looked at Wald, here eyes were a bright gold, and ears tapered into a points. She gave a slow quark of the brow, and the gold shifted over to a black. It felt unnatural to the hunter, but he had heard of people like this. Biqaj if he was not mistaken, they were a strange people to be sure. "This is the fighter aye?" The woman was looking Wald up and down, appraising him as if he was a slab of meat.

The man gave a slow nod, he was older then the woman. He had a rough outward appearance but the way he spoke was more elegant. "Yes, this is the slave you requested." The man looked over to Wald, who stood still just feeling like he was an object right now.

The woman gave a look back. "And you say, he is obedient?" The Biqaj walked slowly to the Wald, after getting up from her seat.

The man gave a creeping grin. "Of course. We have all but destroyed his mind. Solitary, and forced to kill. Little food. He is not much more then a shell meant for the arena now." The man tapped the table, and the men flanking Wald walked to the side, allowing the woman to get close.

The Biqaj slowly moved into Wald's personal space, her eyes shifted yet again to a crimson color. "On your knees Wald." Wald gave a slow swallow, and let his legs collapse under him. He knelt in front of the woman, knowing he needed to obey the commands. This put a smile on the woman's face, as she walked off slightly.

Wald sat there waiting, not knowing what to do next. "Now, as we were discussing, 1000 should do right?" The large man spoke to the woman, as she was taking her seat.

"Ya know that is robbery. 500 I need to be able to gain the cost back."

"900"

"600"

"800"

"650"

The man extended his hand. "750"

"700 final" The woman grabbed hold of the man's hand, both of them shook hands. Taking out a sheet of paper, they pulled Wald to the table. They had a small bowl on the table, and the man took a knife out. They moved the bowl under his hand, and sliced a cut on his palm squeezing it. Dripping blood into the small vessel. It stung for a moment, before they moved the bowl back on the table.

The man took out a quill, and passed it to the woman. "Just need you to sign the contract, and hand over the gold." The woman gave a slow nod taking the quill, as she moved a sack of metal to the man. He placed it on a scale to weigh it, as the woman dipped the quill in Wald's blood. Slowly she signed her name, as the man nodded in agreement of the payment. He took the quill, the signed his name on a second line. It was a bill of sale like any other, needing a witness to the event. So two of the men also placed their names down.

The woman was handed a key, along with the bill of sale. She would then bring Wald into a direction down the halls. There was an exit to this prison after all, as the cold snow began to brush against Wald's feet. She tied a rope around Wald's neck, as the three got to a horse. He would be forced to follow here, Wald could see Rasul sitting on the back of the horse. The rope tied to the horse's reins to keep him from escaping. "Can't wait to see how you do in a real arena aye." Wald blinked for a moment, as he was forced to walk forward to the north. They would be heading to the nearest dock it would seem. The woman most of worked for a foreign arena somewhere on Idalos.

It's a genuinely disturbing moment, someone haggling down the value of another's life.

Wald's steady mental degradation is a fascinating watch. I hope to see more from it.
