(The White Forest) Camp Wald Gets a Visit

32nd of Ymiden 719

Stronghold of education and learning, this fortress is in one of the coldest areas of Idalos and home to many knowledge seekers in a variety of disciplines. However, unknown to most, below the city are those who suffer for the sake of science. While all are welcome, not everyone will be treated as they expect.

Re: (The White Forest) Camp Wald Gets a Visit

The air was tense as the black noses turned into white muzzles. Which in turn turned into a wolf's head, and what was that, several smaller wolves. Puppies? The animal that had emerged from the bush was a mother wolf, along with her five pups. When she noticed Wald, she had a tense moment for herself. Her hair began to stand on end on her back, it was as if she tried to get larger. She was trying in vain to steal Wald's kill, all to feed her pups who were already moving to the kill.

Wald calmed down, instead of keeping his bow out, he decided it was better to put it away. He has had experience with wolves more often now. He began to walk to his kill, standing tall and not looking to the mother. The mother began to start to growl, though it had to effect on Wald. Ylfa had a much more potent growl then the young mother. Wald made his way to the body, as he took his knife out. Plunging the knife into the back of the body, he began to cut the flesh down an invisible line.

Wald had cut the back end of the animal away, leaving the rump and back legs on the ground. After getting the insides of the animal out, he backed away from the kill, bringing the front half of the animal with him. The group of wolves went right for the fresh meat, that Wald happily gave to them. He had started to think of them as a way to extend his family now. Not something to scare away, but someone to help out and receive help from.

Wald made his way to the camp with the front half of his kill.

Slowly, Sybil's eyes began to open once more. It wasn't paired with some grand epiphany, or anything particularly of real note. But something was understood, on a fundamental level. That while desperately clawing at one's fate is definitely a means to keep carrying on with the day to day, it won't be enough to simply rely upon such a thing. The budding stress will merely make things harder than they truly need to be, perhaps creating more problems than it solves, even though it may feel like it's easier to deal with it. Sybil's eyes hang half closed. Zemos could be clearly seen across the campfire. Something about him slightly unnerved Sybil. Why did he always have such a glassy stare?

It didn't matter. Leaning back against the snow, Sybil let out a soft breath. Lying back was the proper course of action, as far as the student was concerned. There would be no good answers to these sorts of things. It would be a constant struggle that would simply refuse to relent. It's just how things work, when it boils down to it. Sinking against the snow, Sybil's body simply leaves an indent on the ground, as their body heat begins to displace the snow beneath them. Waiting for Wald to get back, was perhaps one of the better option that could be done. Sybil relied on him for more than just simply answering things about the world outside of Viden's walls and borders.

He just may be the student's last connecting fetter to keep their mind grounded to Idalos itself.

This was a very intriguing thread between Wald and Sybil. Their respective sidekicks, Ylfa (and Ari) and Zemos, were effective as ways to make the two main characters even more distinct. The premise of being after the events in the Call, which both characters took part in, and Sybil visiting Wald's camp set expectation for a more serious tone than a simple visit might've been otherwise.

It reads like the first thread after Sybil has the Mistress, so that was an interesting perspective after reviewing those solos involving the possession. The fact that Sybil felt comfortable enough with Wald to confess the Mistress's presence was a hopeful addition. I enjoyed the scene when Syb was reading at camp with Zemos observing them.

Wald's reaction, as well, proved himself to be an ally to Sybil. The offer for Ylfa to help, while managing his emotions for Syb's sake, was heartening. Ylfa's confusion as to why she kept hearing her name was a neat immersion to the scene. His following offer to look for a book, and then have Syb stay at his camp, Wald is a good friend.

Sybil and Wald threads are always so interesting because they have a balanced rhythm to them between the posts, both ICly and through the writing length of each post. The two tend to travel about (one leaving the camp, or both, then coming back, etc.) and cover a lot of ground between their fairly brief conversations with one another. This makes room for a lot of different types of scenes within the same thread.

The respective comfort of having them separate into solo scenes before coming back together fits very well with these two particular characters as well. Though this thread felt like it left off with a lot more questions than answers... but I assume there'll be a continuation in another thread between these two.

Excellent job the both of you and enjoy your rewards!

PM me if you have any questions, issues or concerns.
