Rharne: Cold Cycle 724 Calendar

Cold Cycle 724
(Vhalar & Zi'da)

Weather in Vhalar 724
Unseasonably warm at times, but the leaves seem to fall faster this Vhalar, as if the tunawa are working overtime to knock them out of trees for their arrangement with Vhalar.

Rain is scarce, so a slight draught at the middle of the season is leading to some small scale droughts.

Image Rharne Fighting Circuit All Season As a city of brawlers, the fighting spirit of everyday fighters is an identifying mark of its culture. Image Drink Up! All Season Alcohol and brewing are undoubtedly another prominent feature of Rharnean life, along with the constant noise and loud partying that often accompanies the sharing of libations. As such, the people of Rharne are always on the lookout for the next great home brewed beer, ale, wine, spirit or liquor that the next brewmaster may concoct, as the basis for starting a tavern or just sharing among their social circle. Those who engage in the production of and sharing of new brews will surely earn the eternal praise of the Rharnean people. (Mod-Input)Open

Image Pigasuses Are Here to Stay! All Season The Pigasuses have survived the dangerous hot cycle, where they were relentlessly hunted by opportunistic adventurers looking for either good meat or wells. The conservation effort won out over the hunger for their meat and byproducts, however, and now the Pigasuses are here to stay. They are most common around the Mudflats east of Westwind Town. But they can be found all over, although in slightly sparse flocks.Open

Image Ilaren's Voice Barely a Whisper All Season For a while now, Ilaren has not been spotted around Rharne. Neither the council nor the Lightning Knights have heard hide or hair of the Immortal Sovereign of Rharne. The Thunder Priesthood alone claims to be in contact with her, and ensure the public that she has not forgotten about Rharne, but has important business she's attending to. The tension from not seeing or hearing from their Immortal Sovereign comes to a head when she's conspicuously absent from the Annual Beer Festival. In fact, many Palenon marked and Thunder Priests alike have issues conjuring refreshments from their bottomless canteens, wineskins, horns, and cups. Some doomsayers offer this as proof that Ilaren has fallen to misadventure somewhere, and ceased to exist. The Thunder Priesthood strongly condemns these claims, but makes no moves to silence the doomsayers.Open

Image Patches of Pumpkins 9th Vhalar Patches of wild pumpkins begin growing in the more temperate areas of Rharne, all through the woodland areas, and in parts of the northern Stormwastes and Stormlakes region. Pumpkins have always been a part of Vhalar's agricultural product in Rharne, however, the overabundance of them this season has led to a renaissance of pumpkin crafts and pies and special pumpkin beers. Some have even taken to using them as gourds, to carry their beer. Alarmingly, a rash of amber slime outbreaks in these wild pumpkin patches have thwarted a more fervent harvest of the large squashes. Some link the use of pumpkins as drinking gourds to this slime outbreak. Evidence to this effect is found as some of the slain slimes appear to have bits of pumpkin mixed up in their innards.Open

Image Annual Beer Festival 45th Vhalar The Annual Beer Festival spans 7 trials between the 45th - 52nd of Vhalar, during which all citizens (with the exception of those who work in the service industry) are excused from work. During the day, the streets in the Earth Quarter and the Glass Quarter are lined with booths of brewers sampling and selling locally brewed beers as well as merchants from all over Idalos peddling their wares. In the evenings, taverns across Rharne are filled with revelers. High Priestesses/Priests from the Thunder Priesthood faction often travel the city and encourage celebrations by sharing their Bottomless Wineskin ability from their Palenon blessings. This celebration is somber, for fears about Ilaren and the growing uncertainty about her status. However, the Thunder Priesthood assures the populace that this is not the first time Ilaren has been absent on some long errand or another elsewhere. And for the first six days people are well able to enjoy themselves.Open

Image Last Trial of Beer Fest 52nd Vhalar Inexplicably, the difficulties priests have had with conjuring refreshment abate, and they are able to fill the cups of any and all. Jubilation gives way to horror, however, when they find that the wine conjured has the consistency of blood, and the appearance of blood, but the taste of wine. Some of the cups hold what appears to be burning aukari blood, like mulled version of the ordinary 'blood wine'. The Tappers of the Thunder Priesthood has its hands full trying to calm the populace, with this or that excuse. However to anyone with a modicum of psychological awareness will be able to tell the Priests are every bit as distressed.Open

Image Pumpkin-Nickles 74th Vhalar With the abundance of pumpkins, Rharrneans have taken to using them for many different uses. Some people have even taken them to use as casings for lanterns! These light-imbued, carved pumpkins are affectionately referred to as Pumpkin-Nickles, for the Nickles that had menaced Rharne during the Rhaum crisis. They're taking a lesson from Vega Creede, who had a habit of giving funny names to scary things. This is a manner of healing the trauma of the terror of that period for many people, although some are alarmed to see some of the scarier versions of these lanterns. However, on the 74th of Vhalar, The Gardener's Friend is holding a pumpkin carving for anyone interested. Interestingly enough, those who attend and carve a pumpkin will find a Pumpkin-Nickle at their house, which appears to grow legs. Problins have gotten in on the festivities, and seek to scare people by sneakily moving around in disguise as Pumpkin-Nickles!Open

Image Jackornickle Rider on the Bumpy Road 101st Vhalar A small group of intrepid scholars went to investigate the phenomenon of the Bumpy Road, and the Rhaumine Fracture in general. However, they scarcely made it beyond the first stretch of the Bumpy Road before a strange creature accosted them. It was a jackolantern headed rider on a black horse, menacing them from a distance. One of these scholars served as a soldier during the fight against the Flameborn, and swear this thing must be some sort of 'Nickle'. But with Rhaum and the Purveyor dead, how can their creations persist? It must be something else, right!? Mod Input if you want to arrange an encounter with the rider.Open
Zi'da Weather 724
Chilly but not uncomfortably so. Even the snow flurries and stronger snow storms seem to have an underpinned warmth to them, as the wind blows in from the south.

Image 12 Trials of Zi'da 50th Zi'da The 12 Trials of Zi’da is an annual celebration of family and friends that lasts from the 50th – 61st of Zi’da. The holiday allows Rharnians to show appreciation and gratitude for the people in their lives who have loved and supported them throughout the past arc. Each trial has a specific theme, and those who celebrate the holiday give their loved ones a small gift connected to the theme. Some choose to wrap the gifts, tag them with an identifier to show what date the gift should be opened, and give them to their intended recipients all at once. Other Rharnians choose to give and receive their gifts on a daily basis. During the 12 trials, the Rharne marketplace in the Earth Quarter turns into the “Zi’da Market,” and is filled with food, mulled wine and cider, and vendors peddling wares aligned to the themes. However, this Zi'da something very special happens. One of the trials of Zi'da, should you be the recipient of a gift on one of the twelve trials of Zi'da, the gift will be accompanied by the appearance and bonding of a spirit associated with the concept of that gift. However this bonding is not to last, as the spirit will insist upon being bound to something, a permanent structure, place, or geological feature that is associated with the spirit's concept. Should one fail to accomplish this bonding for the spirit, they will develop a small, mostly harmless curse associated with its domain. Should they succeed in finding a place for the small spirit, they will develop a small, mostly harmless power associated with its domain.Open

Image The Spirit Who Stole Zielmas 62nd Zi'da Everyone Down in Rharne town Liked Zielmas a lot... But Faishu, Who lived just north of Rharne town, Did NOT! The Faishu hated Zielmas! The whole Zi'da season! Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason. It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his eyes were too bright. But I think that the most likely reason of all, May have been that his coin purse was two sizes too small. Whatever the reason, His purse or his eyes, He stood there on Zielmas Eve, hating Rharneans, Staring up from his cave with a sour, Faishu frown, At the warm lighted windows above in their town. For he knew every Rharnean up in Rharne on its mountain, Was busy now, drinking beer right out of a fountain! "And they're unpacking their beer pints!" he snarled with a sneer, "Tomorrow is Zielmas! It's practically here!" Then he growled, with his primate fingers nervously drumming, "I MUST find some way to stop Zielmas from coming!" For Tomorrow, he knew, all the Rharnean girls and boys, Would wake bright and early. They'd rush for their booze! And then! Oh, the hoots! Oh, the woots! Hoots! Woots! Hoots! That's one thing he hated! The Hoots! Woots! Woots! Wootss! Then the Rharneans, young and old, would sit down to a feast. And they'd feast! And they'd drink! And they'd FEAST! Feast! Drink! FEAST! They would feast on Beer-pudding, and rare Pigasus Roast. Which was something Faishu couldn't stand the most! So he stole up to Rharne Town, to steal all their toys. Bringing misery and lack, to all the little girls and boys. Rhyme Adapted from Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas.Moderated
